Care & Safety
Cleaning your Stained Glass Piece:
Use only NON ammonia containing glass cleaners. You can use a carnauba based car wax to polish your piece. Apply the wax and let dry until a film appears then buff with a soft cloth. Wax is fine on the solder and the glass. Do not be heavy handed, be gentle taking care not to press too hard or you could rub off the patina (does not apply to all pieces) or crack pieces of glass. If, on the rare occurrence, your piece needs a deep cleaning, wash gently with Dawn dish soap and warm water. Dry with a cotton cloth and polish for a shine. Occasionally, over time, you may see a white substance appear on the lead or solder. It is just oxidation or left over un-buffed wax.
Hanging your small/medium suncatcher:
It is not recommended that suction cups be used as they fail often causing your stained glass piece to likely get damaged. Instead, use a small nail, screw or cup hook into the drywall above your window to hang your piece. Most suncatchers come with a special nylon hanging cord already on them and ready to hang. Should you need to extend the length of the cording, you can replace it with ribbon, monofilament or small chain.
Hanging your large suncatcher or panel:
You will want to go to your nearest home improvement store and select a chain of your liking. You will be able to purchase only the amount needed as it is sold by the foot so have your measurements with you. There are many options, however, I prefer what is called “Jack chain”. You’ll also want to get some “S” hooks to use to attach the chain to your panel and then the panel to your hooks, you’ll need 4 “S” hooks total. You should use two pieces of chain and not one continuous piece. So one piece of chain for the ring on the right and one piece of chain for the ring on the left. You will need two hooks, one for each side to receive the chain. For large panels (12” x 12” or larger), ensure that your hooks are secured into hardwood or that you are using wall anchors for drywall. Small panels under 12” x 12” can be hung using cup hooks.
Caution:
Solder and came contain a percentage of lead. Keep all stained glass out of the reach of children. Lead is ONLY harmful if ingested so wash your hands after handling as a precaution.
Kristal Kreations is not responsible for any damage that may occur to your stained glass pieces should improper hanging techniques be used.
